Many times, family members and friends may feel obligated to cover for the person with the drinking problem; in many of these instances, they may take on the burden of cleaning up their messes or begin to lie and make excuses for the alcoholic; pretending that nothing is wrong and constantly hiding away all of their fears and resentments can take an enormous emotional toll on loved ones.
Based on a nationwide household survey of 49,000 people, it was found that a 10-percent increase in price could decrease the number of binge-drinking episodes per month by approximately 8 percent.
Aging interferes with the body's ability to adapt to the presence of alcohol, and the elderly exhibit certain effects of alcohol at lower doses than younger subjects whose tolerance increases with increased consumption.
Studies show that the decision to drink is influenced more by the perceived benefits of drinking than by the perceived risks.
